What changes the price

Whether the quote is for laying only or supply and install, the carpet grade, underlay, removal of old carpet and disposal, stairs and the condition of the subfloor. Because underlay is treated differently by different sources, ask every installer whether it is included.

How to compare

Ask for written quotes that state whether removal, underlay, stairs and offcuts are included. Our checklist for comparing flooring quotes fairly shows what to line up. If the room might get wet, read waterproof flooring for bathrooms, laundries and kitchens, and for hard-floor alternatives see hybrid vs vinyl plank vs laminate flooring.

Licence question

NSW Government's licence list does not name carpet laying, so whether a licence applies is not confirmed. See do you need a licence for flooring work in NSW.
